After receiving over 500 entries and thousands of votes, Hooroo has announced that Australia’s Top Secret Spot is Waterfall Gully in South Australia.
Qantas’s new website dedicated to online accommodation and travel inspiration, Hooroo, launched the national search in November 2012, with an expert judging panel of travel and lifestyle influencers selecting the top 40 ‘Secret Spots’ that were then put to a public vote.
Here’s some inspiration for your next Australian getaway:
Waterfall Gully, South Australia
Only six minutes from the Adelaide’s city centre, Waterfall Gully was a clear winner in the Secret Spot search as it features shady walking trails, colourful flora, a tranquil creek and a restaurant on the hilltop that will allow you to relax in your beautiful surroundings.
Fish Rock Cave, New South Wales
Located between Sydney and Brisbane, this ocean playground will have even the most experienced divers in awe. The cave’s entrance is 24 metres below sea level so you will need to dive down and engage with sea creatures and pink coral, before you even begin to experience Fish Rock Cave.
Secret Falls, Tasmania
Another city destination, Secret Falls is only a 15 minute drive from the centre of Hobart. The Falls are hidden away on the lower slopes of Mt Wellington, just past the Cascade Brewery, so make sure you take a few steps to the left and open your eyes next time you’re in Tassie or you might just miss it like so many others.
Tumby Bay, South Australia
A 10 kilometre beach with white sand and crystal blue waters, Tumby Bay is a picturesque place to visit if you are in need of some serious relaxation time. Located on the Eyre Peninsula, this holiday destination is excellent for water based activities such as fishing, diving, snorkelling, sailing and swimming.
Little Beach, Western Australia
If you want to get away to a place where there is little more than a wooden staircase and two giant stones, then Little Beach in the Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve located 35 kilometres east of Albany, might be just the place to go to. Spend some time watching the wave’s crash or bring along a picnic basket for some old fashioned ‘doing nothing’.
