The words London and airport efficiency do not usually go together, however London City Airport (LCY) has employed a system that makes checking in baggage take less than one minute.
Exclusive to British Airways customers, passengers can check in via self-service kiosks, print their own baggage tags and then affix them to their luggage.
After arriving at the dedicated bag drop podium, all passengers have to do is scan the tag and have the weight checked, a process which took an average of 24 seconds during trials.
The success of these trials is encouraging LCY to open several bag drop podiums throughout 2013, which will be in addition to the two that are already operating at the airport.
The self-service kiosks are just some of the initiatives that LCY are developing which will help their customers, in particular those travelling on business, move through the airport in a more efficient way.
Luke Hayhoe, General Manager Commercial and Customer of British Airways CityFlyer, highlighted the low queue times at LCY and noted the importance of customers having the capability to check in as late as 20 minutes before their flight is due to leave.
Mr Hayhoe also praised the simplicity and flexibility that London City Airport allows its customers to experience.
